Welcome!

Monroe County United Ministries (MCUM) has been providing social services in Monroe County since 1939. MCUM is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization (EIN # 35-131090) that provides affordable childcare for working families and basic needs assistance to Monroe County residents in crisis. MCUM receives support in many forms from more than 40 local faith communities, in addition to support from a wide variety of other sources, but our programs do not include a religious component.

Matching Opportunity for MCUM's Endowment

This is the sixth year of the Community Foundation of Bloomington and Monroe County’s Matchstick Endowment Matching Initiative. When community members donate $7,500 for MCUM's endowment fund, an additional $2,500 will be added by the foundation. This is a great opportunity to maximize the impact of your donation thanks to a 3:1 match and to strengthen the endowment that will support our programs for as long as they are needed. Puffin Room Closes

The Childcare Program includes five classrooms for preschool children: Puffins, Seahorses, Penguins, Otters and Dolphins. In August 2010, we were forced to close the Puffin Room, the room that served 2 - 2.5 year olds, due to a variety of funding losses. Thanks to careful planning, the closing was delayed long enough to graduate the enrolled Puffins into the Seahorse Room so that none of our families lost care. However, MCUM's waiting list currently includes more than 40 children and that list will continue to grow as families search for affordable care for their two-year olds. We will re-assess our financial position soon to determine when the room can be re-opened.
