CHILDCARE SERVICES (Infants – 6 years old)
Monroe County United Ministries provides full-time, year-round affordable childcare for children from 6 weeks to 6 years old. MCUM is proud to now offer TWO locations for our Compass Early Learning Center – Compass North (827 West 14th Court, Bloomington, IN 47404) and Compass Downtown (First United Methodist Church: 219 E 4th St, Bloomington, IN 47408). We maintain a waiting list for this high-quality, affordable program. Parents must be Monroe County residents and be working full-time or working part-time while attending school. A few spots are available for children of full-time students.
THE COST OF CARE
Although the program is open to households of all income levels, low-income families receive first priority for enrollment. Fees are determined on a sliding scale based on family size and income. Providing high-quality childcare in our center costs $210 per child per week for children in the 3-5 year-old range, and $250 per child per week for 2 year olds. The average family on MCUM’s sliding scale pays $60 per week, and a discount is available to families with more than one child enrolled. Eligible families are asked to apply for support through the Child Care Development Fund (CCDF), administered by Chances and Services for Youth (CASY).
WHY COMPASS EARLY LEARNING CENTER?
MCUM is licensed by the State of Indiana. For more information about licensed childcare centers versus other provider options, visit the Indiana’s Family & Social Services Administration (FSSA) website. The FSSA site also provides a service called Carefinder, which allows parents and other concerned community members to search for care options and see the results of provider inspections and complaints filed against providers. MCUM’s program has also:
- Achieved accreditation by the National Association for the Education of Young Children and has been accredited since 2004.
- Achieved Level 4, the highest level available, in FSSA’s Paths to Quality voluntary assessment program for care providers. Level 4 indicates that the program has national accreditation.
Compass Early Learning Center provides two meals and a snack each day, uses a play-based curriculum that prepares children for success in school, provides basic health services (flu shots, lead screenings, dental clinics, etc.), provides a parent resource room with employment and parenting resources, and works with many community partners to provide the best possible care.
